Exercise 2: Walking Backward
Both leaders and followers should practice walking backward, focusing on balance and good posture. Practicing walking backward will improve your balance a great deal.
Be sure to keep your chest forward even as you walk backward.
Extend one leg fully behind you, supporting your weight on your front leg. Then, shift your weight to the back leg, letting it bend slightly as it takes the weight. Then, collect the front leg and extend it fully behind you, and so on.
When legs pass by each other, there should be no space between them. It's as if the feet are moving along tracks that are right next to each other.
As stated before, keep a good connection with the floor. Do not lift your feet up as you step. Rather, let them slide along the floor.
